Imaginary spaces - 1

The paintings in this series often begin with persistent images and recurring thoughts.

I do not seek to represent these images, but to retain something of them: an atmosphere, a tension, a presence. Colour then becomes a means of shifting them into an abstract space, where narrative gives way to perception.

A deliberately restricted palette allows me to explore nuances, temperatures, thickness and density until a sense of balance emerges.
